trulz & robin has released a new ep called “dance music therapy volume 2”, and one of the songs is a really beautiful remix of ost & kjex. their rework of “the clearing” just makes me happy! if it does the same for you, a digital copy can be picked up from here.
10 days ago bonobo visited helsinki and played a really good gig, without a doubt the best one ive been to lately! few days after the gig his remix of maya jane coles’ “something in the air” surfaced, and what a gem! so the last week and a half has been mostly about bonobo in this household, great times…
It was with great sadness that MToK received the message about Terry Calliers death back in October. I started tor write an obituary, but never managed to finish it. I guess I was in too much awe with the fact that this great voice, chose to retired from music when he got the custody of his daughter!
Now 3D of Massive Attack has dug out all the tapes from their sessions together and compiled a mix tape to honour his memory. This is the message that appeared on Facebook the other day:
“Me and Euan reloaded the Terry Callier tapes from 2005. It felt right to honour the short time we had with him in Bristol. We created a ‘mix tape’ of the pieces I worked on with Neil and Terry. I also took the liberty of stripping them back to a more personal space and cut in alternative vocal takes and out takes in an attempt to share a little of the spirit of the great man.”
Lydverket was a Norwegian music magazine for TV that was aired by NRK between 2002 – 2012. The final show was aired a few days ago (28.11), and what a finish it was! Not only featured the show a new song by Kvelertak, but it also had the honour to reveal the collaboration between Röyksopp and Susanne Sundfør – “Running to the Sea”!
I guess the two headed Norwegian monster from Tromsø doesnt need much of an introduction, but Sundfør might. Susanne Sundfør is one of the most interesting artists that comes from Norway these days! Earlier this year she released her fourth studio album “The Silicon Veil” to standing ovations amongst the dice throwing Norwegian music journalists (the album is good even the pun towards the critics…).
Sundfør is also one of the reasons that there is no gender specific category for best artist in Norway these days. In the thank you speech after winning the Spellemanspris for best female artist in 2007 she just said:
“I am first and foremost an artist, not first and foremost a woman”.
This of course spurned a public debate about the topic, which she added more fuel to after withdrawing her nomination in the same category in 2010.
The collaboration will also be released as a single at some point in the future.
Enslaved, one of the most famous metal bands from Norway, preformed a cover version of the Led Zeppelin classic “Immigration Song” on television a few weeks ago. Many of their international fans were scratching their heads on whether the band had become sellouts or just gone plain soft. Well the answer is neither, but rather simple. The program performed on was Trygdekontoret and its run by Thomas Seltzer, better known as Happy Tom from Turbonegro. The program ends every time with a live performance of a well known Norwegian artist.
So why the picture of Grutle Kjellson and Ivar Bjørnson with a sheep? Well, the picture is taken from a protest organized by the same Norwegian campaign (Piracy Kills Music) that I mentioned in the post “Home Taping Is Killing Music” – the mp3… In short: the two Enslaved members stole downloaded a sheep from Lars Sponheim, the Liberal Party Venstre leader, that fronted the statement that downloading music should be legal and free! Watch the hilarious video after the jump.
Yep, I had to check my old mathbooks for the true meaning of the name to Jori Hulkkonen‘s new project – Sin Cos Tan. This time he has teamed up with Juho Paalosmaa, better know as one half of the Finnish electro pop duo Villa Nah. They started to record their self titled debut album at the beginning of this year, and tomorrow (22.11.12) we will find out how the collaboration turned out. That is not completely true since the album (tracklist after the jump) is “Album of the Week” at YleX, which means that you can stream it until Friday – well worth checking out!
Update: check out Sugarcane Recordings soundcloud page for an album preview!
The release party for the album will be at Ravintola Adams the 1 of December. Tickets are not on sale yethere, or please let me know if they are (and where) read more on the event page. Im not going to miss their live show this time around as I did during Flow Festival (too early start)!
You can also check out Jori Hulkkonen’s BassoRadio show if you want to know more about Sin Con Tan’s thoughts regarding their album.
After having listened a few times to the album the stand out track is still “Trust”, even I’ve its been around for a couple of months already. It can be downloaded for free here!
“We Are Really Sorry” is a film that will take you for a road trip from Cologne to Cheesetown, Boottown, Coffeetown and back again. They have also made the soundtrack which you can stream after the jump. But is it really a soundtrack to the film, or is the film the visuals to the album? I guess that is the question, quite fascinating and intriguing at the same time! All four trailers for the film can be found here.
The film and soundtrack was released this week, but in the early December the Super Limited Collectors Edition will be available. This is a true gem for collectors:
“Gargantuan not only in name, this edition is bound to become a true collector’s item, containing all sorts of great goodies straight from the hands/heart of the Pachanga Boys. Besides the double 180g LP (+CD +DVD +16 page booklet), the beautiful wooden box also includes the “Fiesta Forever” music box (machinery and engraved silver plate made in Paris, mounted on African wenge wood), a 36 page psychedelic colouring book with special crayon pack, a special postcard to send the one you love and an organic cotton and Alpaca knitted tortilla chip broche.”
It was great with great sadness that MToK received the sad news that Peter Kuhlmann, better know as Pete Namlook had passed away. Not only was he a pioneer in the electronic music field, but he also founded…
Me: No, they arnt running around. They are playing music, do you want to listen?
So off we went to play some music. Unfortunately I dont have the their latest album “Sexual Harassment” only “Apocalypse Dudes” and the song of choice was “Get it On”…
Me: So this is how the band sounds like.
The Disco Rodent listen for 20 seconds, then smiled and asked:
DC: Is this Rock ‘n’ Roll?
Me: Well I guess you can call it Rock ‘n’ Roll if you want to.
DC screaming out loud: Ohhhh yeahhhh, Rock ‘n’ Roll!!!!!
Then the Disco Rodents played some very cool air guitar for the rest of the song…
…for the neighbours. Few days ago I got fed up washing the dishes, so I turned up the volume on my old JVC Boomblaster and challenge the Disco Rodents for a dance battle! Quicly the livingroomfloor was cleand and of we went! Wilder and wilder dance moves was shown, but in the end (we didnt manage to battle the whole 15 min) we were just laying on our backs just digging the song! Pure bliss!
Pachanga Boys are Mauricio Rebolledo and Aksel Schaufler, aka Superpitcher. Together they run the label Hippie Dance, “Time” is taken from their excellent 12″ “Girlcatcher” that can be picked up from Discogs for a merely 400€…
